1995 Mercury Marquis C Works Sometimes Checked Freon Guage Shows O K Seems

The A/C works sometimes and sometimes not. I checked freon with guage and it shows to be O.K. seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Where can I start to diagnose the problem?
