The ignition cylinder just broke off today - How can I replace it myself? I see alot of different methods from easy (pop-out cylinder) and replace to tear down the whole column and disconnect airbag. But I can't find help for my exact year and model online. Everything electrical is working fine. Just the key sleeve got loose awhile back and I just had to line it up and be gentle when inserting/removing the key, but today it broke off while I was wiping steering column. HELP - Please - I don't have the 230.00 dealer wants to fix it and its my only vehicle. The user manual sites want to download toolbars that just muck up my laptop - I can't afford to be without a truck and a laptop in this one horse town.

So have you tried taking covers off column and lookin it over? This pic should tell you if you have the pin release lock.

Removal & Installation (With Key)

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument panel trim cover. Remove steering wheel. Remove steering column upper and lower shrouds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Shift gear selector into Park (A/T). Insert a 1/8" (3.17 mm) diameter pin into hole located in outer edge of lock cylinder housing.

2. Depress retaining pin and pull out lock cylinder. To install, lube lock cylinder. Turn lock cylinder to ON position. Depress retaining pin. Insert lock cylinder into housing. Ensure cylinder is fully seated and aligned into drive gear before turning key to OFF position. Use key to rotate cylinder, ensuring correct mechanical operation in all positions.

3. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Connect negative battery cable. Check ignition switch functions and ensure column locks when switch is in LOCK position.
