Ford Ranger Carrier bearing Problem

My truck has a pronounced "clunk" when I let off the gas and when I accelerate,. This especially pronounced in the 30-45 mph range. I checked the u-joints and the seem OK. There is some slop in the driveshaft carrier bearing. Could this be the source of the noise or perhaps the u-joints just need to be replaced. This truck is all original in this area.
