95 egr problems

I am working on a 95 ford ranger and I got code P0401 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected) checked vacuum going to the egr valve with the engine running and there was not any. I replaced the vacuum solenoid and still no change. There is power going to the vacuum solenoid with engine running. Got any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

You don't want any EGR at idle when you're standing in front of the truck. That would cause a severe misfire. I would sooner suspect the passages taking the exhaust to the cylinders are plugged with carbon.

Ok thanks, I forgot that it is closed at idle. I should do a road test next to see if it is responding and getting vacuum to actual EGR valve. I'm sure somethings plugged like you said. I will pull the tube off and and clean all passages.
