What would cause a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 5.9 L to hesitate going into reverse?
When you put it in reverse you have to wait about 30 sec for it to go into reverse and it shifts in realy hard.

does goosing it speed the process up any?

Yes goosing it does speed up the process.

do it consistantly or just when cold/warm?

It mostly does it when you first start it up.

make sure the TCM has the latest programming update.
