I have a 95 Monte Carlo. The temp gauge climbs up and then drops after a couple of minutes without action taken. Thermostat vs. Water pump?

T=If this is happening at idle, it's probably just the fan kicking in and that would be normal operation. If this happens at other times, then it could be air pockets in the cooling system caused by a coolant leak. The intake manifold gaskets are notorious for leaking on these.
