Is the battery light turning on when you turn on the ignition switch? If not, the "turn-on" circuit to the generator is not being energized.
Also check for battery voltage on the large output terminal on the back of the generator. If it's missing, check the large fuse in the under-hood fuse box or look for a burned fuse link wire.
