Bought a 94 Toyota Tercel with 122K. The owner said that it needed a head gasket. So I pulled the head off. I inspected and cleaned the head and noticed some of the valves had a large amount of carbon build up. I cleaned them up. Replaced oil seals, head gasket, exhaust and intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gasket. The car started up right away but aloud ticking noise. Cannot pinpoint area. What might be the problem. Also the diagnostic port is quite different from my scan tool. Is there an adapter? Thanks, Tim

Tim:
Are you sure the rockers are properly adjusted. Also, make sure the exhaust manifold doesn't have any cracks. That can cause a ticking sound. As far as the adapter, you may need a different scanner. In 1994, Toyota may still have the OBD1 scanner set-up.
