A low compression cylinder would be a cause for lack of power and hesitation
a cylinder leak test can be done to find the reason of a low compression

That sounds expensive, what are some of the reasons for low compression?

It can be an expensive repair and specially on a high mileage engine
as for reason for a low compression it could be many, and a leak test on the cylinder is needed to verify the reason
