I drive a 1994 nissan sentra and this morning i tried to shift into drive while my engine was cold and i heard a big snap, now it only shifts into reverse. What could be the problem?

Do you mean only reverse works and others do not or the shift lever can only be moved to Reverse and no other position?

I mean only reverse works it shifts into everything but only goes into reverse.

Here are possible causes.

Vehicle Will Not Move Or Slips In "D", "1" & "2"

Incorrect fluid level or line pressure, damaged line pressure solenoid, control valve assembly, N-D accumulator, reverse clutch, high clutch, forward clutch or the low one-way clutch.

Seems the transmission has failed internally. Check the fluid level first.
