I have a 94 Nissan 4X4 XE V6 and one day the speed odometer stops working.

While driving the speed odometer stopped working. The needle still moves but it just bounces around when driving and is no where close to the speed I am going. Also the gas gauge doesn't show proper fuel level. Have been told it could be speed odomer cable, but have read that Nissan changed to a sensor in 94. Also can not locate the cable if there is one or a sensor if there is one on the back of the transfer case. But was wondering seeing that the gas gauge isn't working properly either would my speed odometer problem be in the dash? If so how to find out with out going broke changing everything.

See the image. The speed sensor is located on the tailshaft (driver side) of the transmission. The 240SX is a rear drive car. Are you talking about the Quest or Pathfinder?

According to my reference source, the vehicle speed sensor is located on the rear of the speedometer.
