1994 Geo Tracker Repair Question

What would damage the computer on a '94 Geo Tracker so that the car won't start w/out the "pedal to the metal" (unless cold) & dies, unless revvs kept high, especially on take-off? Got a re-built replacement & ran fine for a few days, then started"same-ol
5-spd stick w/ 1.6 eng.

alot of things have it scanned for codes and check vacuum at idleif 15" or below suspect a clogged converter. also check fuel pressure.
