what would make my oil pressure gauge suddenly drop to nothing and rattle when i let off the gas?

when i was driving, my truck made a noise then the oil pressure gauge dropped.

Have you checked the oil level? If it's full, suspect worn engine bearings. The oil pump can't keep up at the lower idle speed with how fast the oil will run out through the bearings. That wear will accelerate very quickly once it starts.
