When I turn the switch on to crank the car the bell chimes but the car does not crank, its like the switch does not work? Some of the dash lights work, radio works. I have a new battery. About 5yrs ago I had a after market radio installed? Car was fine when I parked it, but seems like something pulls the battery down when it sits for awhile. I would charge the battery or get a new one and it would crank, but this time it did not.

Could be the steering column lock has broken, its a common problem on the E36. 32321161551 is the part# go to realoem. Com and input that # and it will take you to an exploded view.
