My 93 Saturn SL2 stalls out after sitting idle for more than 5 minutes. What is causing this?

The car will start and begin running as normal. Once its been driven and sits at a traffic light, it will stall out. I then have to wait quite awhile to get it going again. Usually, more than an hour.

Just to add to this one when it doesnt start see if there is spark real easy remove two wires that are side by side crank the engine over see if a nice blue spark jumps tower to tower. If thats good i doubt its the fuel pump usually when they fail on those cars they just stop pumping all together. Then i would suspect the coolant temp sensor really common for those to go bad.Do you have a multimeter to do some testing?

Coil packs were changed. Recently installed a new fuel pump and carb spray was used to clean carburetor. Once it stalls out, u can start it right up but it just stalls out again when u put it in reverse or drive. Someone mentioned that the idle airflow intake valve may dirty or bad.

So when it stalls out and will start up and then it will stall when putting it in reverse or drive if you left it in park can you rev it up and let it idle back down to normal idle without it stalling? Also try this when its stalling out leave it in park and rev it up 2,000 rpms and hold it there for 30 seconds then quickly release the gas pedal let it drop down to idle does it stumble or stall out?

When I let it idle down, it stalls out as soon as you put it in gear.I've reved it up and it still stalls.

Have you checked the coolant temp sensor yet or the idle air control valve?
