Mercury Villager Timing belt Problem

My van was leaking oil from the front of the motor so I had a friend look at it. He said that the crank rod seals needed to be replaced and that I would have to also replace the timing belt as it was proably soaked in oil from the leak. So I had him to repair the problem. My question is wheather or not the timing belt had to be replaced also. I asked for the receipt for the parts he bought and he said he doesn't have it anymore nor the parts he replaced. How can I find out if he replaced what he says he did?
