First the power steering went out and then the engine stalled

Check to see if a belt is broken under the hood. If it overheated, chances that is what it was.

I had it towed to a parking lot and it is just sitting there. I had a couple friends look at it and they mentioned something about an idler bearing?

If the idler pulley bearing is bad, chances are the belt wasn't spinning fast enough or it came off.
