what is causing my defroster not to work, my heater works one day then the next time it does not.It sounds like its trying to start but can't.

Quickly touch the top and bottom heater hoses, if both are hot, then you may have a diverter valve bad, or blend door.
If both are cool then thermostat, if one hot and one cold then heater core is partially blocked.
If both are cool then thermostat, if one hot and one cold then heater core is partially blocked.
