Will not move down from there. How can I get it to move down? I can hear the motor trying to move it down when I move the control down, so I suspect that its just a broken gear or something like that preventing the column from moving down.

Gears may be damaged did you try pulling down while operating?

This DIY worked for me. Did it a year ago and no problems since. Used a garden hose washer.

Real easy. If you can hear the motor working it's just the gear. I just flipped the old one and it works fine. I did order a new one on ebay for $20. Youtube has a how-to vidio
