1993 Jeep Cherokee Repair Question
Mileage: 23,500 miles.
How to install a universal starter switch.
Answer
is that just a big pushbutton with 2 connections?
Yes, it's the dorman model #85935 universal starter switch
You can't simply do that. This is a sophisticated electrical circuit that is likely integrated with an immobilizer security system that cannot be bypassed.
oh jeez.. any guesses? the starter was replaced and the battery cables along with the ignition lock cylinder. still won't start. any way to bypass the ignition switch? when i turned the key, there is no sound.
Changing the ignition lock would have done nothing for the electrical circuit. Your problem may not even have anything to do with the ignition switch.
There is also an early and late design with a relay that is operated by the PCM.
Here are the diagrams but you need electrical knowledge to read them correctly.
Early production design

late design
