I have a ford pick-up 1992, gas, fuel injected, 4wd, f250 extended cab. It had been running veery rough and using alot more gas than usual. I started it the other day to move a 28 ft boat and it went about ten feet and died. now it won't start. You can hear the electric fuel pump run about 2 seconds each time you turn the ignition on. If you hold the throttle on the floor it will start for about two seconds. No start at all if you don't hold the throttle on the floor.

Any ideas what i should look for? I have changed fuel filter and air cleaner.

There could be a variety of problems: The engine might be flooding, the fuel pump may be on the way out, need more info. Have you made any adjustments recently? When was tune up last performed? Any other work done? Did it use a lot of fuel when it ran before this problem occurred?

check fuel pump pressure (directions on homepage under the DIY section) check throttle position sensor, check idle air control valve. If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free and it could identify the exact problem. If you can't get to them, they will lend the scanner to you.
