i have a 1993 ford explorer 2wd what would cause the transmission to overheat and lose power

alot of things, dirty fluid, towing with no cooler, brake torquing it and shutting engine off not allowing to cool down, slippage in clutches or a bad seal. low on fluid. etc.

i was told from my uncle that i just bought it from.. that when you turn it on and let the transmission warm up it would lose power

have a trans guy check it out but make sure it's warm.
