I just installed new cv joints and front end parts on an old Corolla. I used a mallot to pound the cv joints in and they felt like they were locked in and turned in unison, but now the auto transmission makes an ugly noise when I put it in gear (yes, I put new tranny fluid in). What did I do wrong?

I gave it 3 or 4 good whacks with about a half pound fiberglass mallot; it felt about the right force.

Are the shafts the correct ones? are the inner CV's touching the trans case, did you check the inner shaft lengths?

I bought them online; the part numbers matched up; I don't know about the inner shaft lengths until I get them off. I just took the brake hardware off to inspect and got under the car. This is really blowing my mind - the shafts are turning in opposite directions! How the hell did that happen?

That is normal, that is the differential action, with the engine turning the crown wheel, both axles will turn the same way, lots of people see that and say...WHAT THE.......
