92 mercury tracer,1.9 4cyl engine. The water pump locked up so the timing belt broke that runs it.The operator tried to restart it.Now the valves are not working as she tried to start it.On this engine, could the valves have been bent as she tried to start it again? She said she didnt hear anything trying to start it back up,but who knows?

I would be thinking bent valves, you will not hear them hit and it will happen in a micro second, slip on a new belt and do a comp test to prove one way or the other.
