car will only go in gear if shift override lock is engaged?

Is the brake lights comming on when stepping on the brake?Can you hear the shifter lock solenoid click when stepping on the brake?

no the brakelights are not coming on. and no i cant hear or feel any clicking when i step on the brakes.

Have you checked the fuses yet?Do you have a multimeter to do some testing?
