1992 Isuzu Trooper Speedometer Works Inconsistantly Fails Engine Warning Light

The speedometer works inconsistantly.When it fails the engine warning light comes on and then the engine will not slow run.When the speedo works again,the engine light goes out and slow running is again normal.Any ideas?
