no power to the dash lights and starter. Headlights work no problem with battery.
Any ideas?

Have you checked the ignition switch?

Okay... This is interesting. The dash lights get power from the headlight switch. That is seperate from the ignition. Did you check for power to the smaller wire in the starter when the key is in the start position?
