I have bought a 91 Passat from a guy who tried to replace the heater core. He sold it to me as is, and the entire dash has been dismantled. I know there are clips that attach the fuse box under the console. I just can't seem to figure it out. I also have some random wires that don't seem to go to anything, but the fuse box is my most concerning problem as it hangs down.

Wow, you have a real spaghetti mess there. Yes, there are clips that hold it up.

The best thing for you to do is go to the dealer parts department and have them open there pictures in there parts catalog that will identify all the parts you need. It will also show where the go.

Hi,

I'm the guy who replied to you last month...

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/none-of-the-break-lights-work-left-right-and-the-one-in

When you look up at the fuse box wiring... is there a metal bracket on the left and right side of the wires?

Remove the WHITE clips from the side of the fuse box, hook the fuse box INTO the metal bracket, then, use those clips to hold the box in place.

Thomas,

Actually, that explains a lot. I have two triangular brackets that were also detached, and I suspect if I can get those in, that those are the brackets you mentioned.

Thanks for the help! I think I'm one step closer to having a solid car for the boys. :)

Regards,

Jim.

P.S. Thanks for your other response. In tracking down the two wires, I discover that the brake light switch was bad. Replaced that and now the brake lights work fine.
