Enter your question.I have a 1991 toyota pickup 4cyl. 4x2 with a 22re motor. I started my truck one day and the battery light on the dashboard went on. Is my alternator out and I think because the power steering fluid is leaking on it because it really turned hot. Thank You 2carpros.

Use an inexpensive digital voltmeter to measure battery voltage while the engine is running. It must be between 13.75 and 14.75 volts. If it is low, also measure the voltage at the large output terminal on the back of the generator. If the voltage there is considerably higher than battery voltage look for a large value fuse that is blown. If you find the same as battery voltage and it is low, typically around 12.0 to 12.6 volts, the circuitry is okay and the generator is not working.
