i accidently threw off the timing now im not getting any spark from my firing coil i took out the distributor to replace the ehaust manifold gasket

even if it is in wrong, you should have spark.
make sure your connections are good.
check for voltage of 12 on the positive side of the coil. the negative side should pulse while the engine is cranking.

If a battery is low will that stop you from getting spark?

yes it will. the voltage has to be lower than 11.2 volts.
