Toyota Corolla Egr valve Problem

I just got a smog test done and it failed the NO part of the emissions test. At 25 mph it was 849 ppm and here in CA the max is 774 ppm. At 15 mph the HC was 130 ppm and barely passed since the max is 130 ppm. Is there something I can do myself to bring those numbers down enough to pass? Keep in mind I don't work on cars much besides regular maintenance stuff. I haven't use any fuel treatments but do you think that could help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I don't have $$ to pay a mechanic at this time. Thanx, J.J.

Try cleaning out the EGR valve/ports and see what happens-its job is to reduce the oxides of nitrogen-Nox
