A/C not working

1991 toyota corolla sedan: When i turn on my A/C It blows out air but it is not cold, I tried hooking it directly to my battery and it blew out cold does any one know the answer would be much appreciated.

The refrigerant charge may be to low, the low pressure cut out switch has activated, by jumping the comp you have by-passed this safety switch, get the system leak checked first.
