1991 Toyota 4Runner speedometer cable stuck to cluster

I have removed and replaced the speedometer cable. All that is left is to disconnect the last 6 inches of the cable from the back of the cluster. It will not budge. I have taken apart the cluster and have the speedometer disconnected from the

I am sure that they just clip in, push the tab on the outer ring and it should just pull off. Can you post a pic of the type of end on the speedo head.

I have tried pushing on the rings and nothing moves. It still does not pull off either.

The broken drive into the back of the speedo will pull out, the round metal sleeve is the drive, it just sits in that and it does not extend through to the needle spindle in pic 1, that is NOT the end of the drive.
