Hi. Ok, I asked about the cause of our 1991 Nissan Pathfinder being broke down. Right now the car will start and drive but no matter how much you push the accelorator the rpms go up but the car will not go over 20 mph. I got the answer that it's prob in the transmission and to check the tran filter and change if clogged. Then we were told that if the tran filter is clogged it will probably be with tran debris (not good). My hubby is going to drop the pan and check the filter in the morning. But I was wondering if we could have a diagnostic test done to see if there are any codes. Also-will a diagnostic test from a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder tell us if the transmission is bad? Or why?
Thank you! :)

The only thing that is going to tell you what the problem with that is would be a good old transmission technician. If the trans is slipping and you have verified that the fluid id full, then chances are pretty slim it won't need a new trans.

That makes sense! So if the tran fluid is full but I can't go over like 15mph no matter how much I press the gas/rev the rpms then you think I MOST LIKELY WON'T HAVE A BAD TRANSMISSION? :)

My hubby checked it just now idled in the driveway on flat ground. He had to add at least a quart. Not sure yet. So how many quarts go in this tran? :)

It could hold as much as 10 or 12 quarts all together but look for the full mark on the stick after shifting it through the gears and back to park.
