On my ford ranger 2.3 L I started it yesterday and the starter stayed running. Would this be the starter or the solenoid? Or even maybe the battery or ignition switch. Any Ideas? HELP!

That's right, it could be any of those things. You are going to have to do a little troubleshooting to determine the cause. Start our by pulling the wire off the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid mounted near the battery after the cranking has started. If it stops, then you have to test the rest of the circuit before that solenoid.
