WHEN DOWNSHIFTING, THE 4WD GEARSHIFT POPS INTO NEUTRAL. TRANSMISSION IS AN AUTOMATIC, WITH ABOUT 1200K MILES ON IT
1991 Chevrolet Silverado • 252 miles
First time this happened, was downshifting from overdrive, to 3rd, while towing a small 2 horse trailer, while deccelerating up an off ramp, heard the tranny pop out of gear, and the 4wd floor shifter was in neutral. Next time it happened, two days later, was also pulling same trailer, level ground, this time with a horse in it, and was coming up on a 25mph corner so downshifted from drive to, 2nd.
Bad syncro in the tranfer case. it most likely will need to be replaced
Thank you Roy! Mister man wanted me to ask since you brilliantly and promptly answered for us, what is your opinion on cost? Any experience there?
1300-1400 for the case and 2 hours labor, plus fluid
Ahhh, so it is a whole new transfer case replacement job, I couldn't find just a synchro mentioned on Autozone's site!! Thank you for your help!
Better to replace the case as you have a 3 yr 50k warranty and is cheaper.
