Chevy stalls when foot is taken off the gas pedal

I have a 91 Lumina Euro. My friend just replaced the starter. Immediately afterwards, I took the car out for a test drive. Now it is wanting to stall when I take my foot off the gas pedal. Also, I hear a screeching sound while starting the car. Any ideas?

Were you having this problem before the work was done? How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? You should be able to check those codes, yourself.

With any idle issue, I clean the threottle-body and idle air control.

I was not having the stalling problem before the repair was done. I will check for codes.

If he disconnected the battery, it's going to have to go through relearn and that's probably why we haven't heard back from him.

When you mentioned battery, I knew what you were refering to, I always seem to forget that. Have a good day.
