Put key into ignition, not to start the vehicle but, to turn it on to get the 12V accessory plug (cigarette lighter) to come on. Every thing came on fine to include the radio but when we went to turn the key off it turned back but nothing turned off. We turned to start positioned and nothing happened. Think we did hear fuel pump. Vehicle did not attempt to start. The car was in park, the steering wheel was out of the locked position. Several attempts both ways with key produced nothing. Then attempting to remove key we found that the key would not come out either. The radio was on during most of this time but there was no control over it to include off/on and volume. Playing with key back and forth has produced no change. Key still in ignition. Gear shift stuck in park at any key position it seems. Battery has good voltage.

Why won't my car start. Before it stop starting it was running rough. I put fluid in the gas and try putting hi-test gas in the tank. It won't even start now. Can you tell me how to fix it.

It could be a few things. Check fuel pump pressure and make sure you have spark. One is missing

When you turn your key on you should hear buzzing noise from the fuel tank for only about 3 seconds. You need to check at the eng for fuel at the fuel rail. Check all fuses and relays alarm system working properly

Did all that. Noticed an error message on one start attempt.
"Immobilizer activated; see manual" the manual says this is a problem with the
transponder key. I will call Volvo in the morning. Noticed someone with am '04 had the same problem and it reset in 5 hours.

Is your key blade broken? If it is make sure you insert the key in a straight position or the antenna ring will not read the key. Also if you have any fast track near the ignition, move it in another position. Also make sure no other keys are attached with key for this vehicle. If all that is ok let us know what codes are scanned from the Central Electronic Module? You could need something as simple as a CEM software upgrade/reload to worse case scenario replacing the CEM or some other control unit? Let us know what happens?
