My 1990 vw golf gl is currently in the garage and they can't figure out why it won't stay running. It starts, runs, and is drive able for about a minute then shuts off. They mounted a bung on the headers/manifold to hook up the o2 sensor but can't figure out where it goes from there. They also said something about the vacuum seal, fuel injector rod not reading right, or fuel sensor being off. Any ideas?

I'm not sure. I talked to a volkswagen specialist and he said it's definitely not the o2 sensor. It seems to be fuel related. Whether it's the fuel injector, fuel pump, or the vacuum seal on top the engine that connects to the fuel injector rod. I don't know, I just got off the phone with the garage it's at and they haven't looked at it yet today, but I guess he did notice something was broke. A crank something I don't remember what he called it. Either way we can't seem to figure out the problem.

1990 should be Digifant Fuel Injected (at least here in North America). Should have a 3 wire O2 sensor.

If the Fuel Injectors have Metal lines attached to them, then it is CIS injected.

Plain CIS, CIS-Lambda or CIS-E?

Your car has 2 fuel pumps (regardless of Digifant or CIS). Are both pumps OK?
