Have a 1990 toyota cel 2.2. For a while needs water all the time. But only a pint or so. Just water. Last week. Had to put in 2 quarts. Shoulda known. Anyway drove on freeway and got off and it was dyin and steamin. Pulled into lot. Let it cool. Put in water and oil. Drove to mechanic. Said radiator had leak. Got used one and put it in. But same thing happened. Only no leaks. Just steam and water through cap. Checked everything. No oil water mix. All connects ok. Gauge never got real hot. But saw fan wasnt workn. But checked connect=looked ok.I am thinkn thermostat maybe from 1st one. But the 1st looked like it had a leak. No leaks on this replacement

Today drove to a friend to look at it. Nearly overheated. After looking it over. He saw cap on good. But not great. Neede to tighten it up. And that solved thwe problem of the water blowing out thru cap. But I drovee away and saw it didnt solve problem of why it was being blown out. After various talks. Looks like it is thermostat. Now it blows out thru side tube and almost overheats.I am told I can just take out thermostat and get new one when I can. Got no money so it will be a few days.I am told can drive without in so cal on a cool day. But to drive easier than usual. But should be ok. What say you

I would first test rad cap to see if it holds pressure and I kno with my car the fan takes a while to kick on but it doesnt over then check thermistat (boil water and put thermistat in). If that wasnt ur problem it could be water pump 2 located under timing cover. PS with the celica use a block of wood and jack motor up you must remove the motor mount to get timing cover off. There is 1 threw and 2 from under with an extention.
