1990 300ZX Hasn't been started in a month. Will start and run with jumper cables applied and once started will continue to run once cables are removed. W/O cables the battery still has enough juice to run radio, lights etc and when the key is turned you can hear the starter clicking, but engine will not turn. My question is in your opinion could starting the car with jumper cables multiple times in any way help or should I start looking for a new starter?

Have you taken the battery to have it tested? Also made sure the battery cables are clean and tight?Have you had the alternator tested?

Yes, the battery is good, the cables will prob require replacement soon but the connection is at least good enough to engage the starter and run all the other electronic equip (radio, headlights, blinkers, etc.).I have not had the alternator tested, but could a faulty alternator keep it from starting even if the battery is good?

Also, if I do need to take the alternator in to have it tested I could really use a repair manual. Unfortunately the two most popular, Chilton and Haynes do not currently carry any for a 1990 300ZX. Is there a repair manual that you would suggest?

If the battery is fully charged no a bad alternator won't cause the starter to not work. But a bad alternator won't keep the battery charged to start the car. So you actually had the battery tested at the auto parts store? If you have weak or corroded cable's then that will keep the starter from working properly. SO whats going on now it's still not starting?

If you can get the car to start and drive they can test the alternator in the car. Do you have a multimeter?
