1990 Lincoln Town Car Replace Driver S Door Hinges Striker Appears Damaged

I have to replace the driver's door hinges, and the striker appears to be damaged; half the Teflon or rubber covering on it is gone. Would the damaged striker prevent the door from closing fully?
