My 1990 GMC Sierra 4x4 pickup is having starting problems. I checked the battery, it reads 12.0 volts. On my tester. I replaced the starter 1 month ago. When I try to crank it over, I can hear the starter trying to turn the flywheel. But nothing happens. Do you think neutral safety switch or poss. Bad alternator?

12.6 volts is the generic spec for a fully charged battery. Using a digital multimeter, leads across battery posts, have helper turn key to crank, how far does the voltage reading drop? It shouldn't drop below 9 or 10 volts. If it drops to zero, get the battery charged and check connections.
