Hi I have a ford ranger 1990 4x4 2.9L and when I start the truck the top end clicks. When I step on the accelerator the clicking only becomes more and more rapid until I let off the gas.. What's wrong with my truck please help I know very little!!

the lifters are common failures on the 2.9.

you can try having someone remove the valve covers to check but the end result will be the lifters
