89 Tercel running louder than usual-- because of one leadfoot errand?

My dad drove my 89 Toyota Tercel (only 65,000 mi) recently on an errand. Being unaccustomed to the way it handles, he really revved the engine a lot unnecessarily. It sounded terrible but I just went with it because it was a short trip and I figured it couldn't hurt too much. However, since then it has been running much louder than before and has a deep growly sound. What's wrong? Should I take it in? It doesn't sound good.

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Have it checked at a shop for the failure.

Thanks very much, I will. And was it caused by my Dad's driving?

It was mostly age as the pipes were thin from age and he just moved it along quicker than if you did it. Nobody to blame, it just was time for it to wear out.
