I have an 89 Corolla Seca CS Liftback 4AF DOHC (Carby type) I have cleaned my Carby, renewed: Headgasket, waterpump, radiator, thermostat, plugs+leads, oil+filter. Prior to the carby clean my car was losing power really badly when I accelerated from stopping. After I cleaned the carby, it seemed to improve until now, but only sporadically. The carby has not had a complete overhaul but I ran a top quality carby cleaner thru it. I did notice that the corrugated hose situated on the side of the air intake nozzle (at the front) that meets up with the top of the exhaust cover is badly desintegrated and thought that this may be contributing to the problem? i dont plan on spendin too much more money on it as this car is only temporary. What should I do?

Check the fuel pressure if if it within specs. Could be your acceleration pump, main metering and power valve in the carby,or the automatic choke is not set properly.Check the ignition timing/vacuum advance to include the EGR and PCV valves. Test ignition coil primary and secondary winding resistances.
