I have a 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88, when I drive it for a few minutes, about 10-15 minutes, depending on the heat, my service engine light comes on and then the temp and surrounding lights flash, then the car stalls or tries to stall. I had to replace the radiator a few weeks ago. I noticed the fan to the radiator doesn't come on unless I use the air conditioner, that is the only way I can keep the car running. I really enjoy this car and prefer to work on it myself. Where should I start first?

Based on the symptoms you described with your 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88, there could be a few possible causes for the engine stalling and the warning lights coming on.

My delta starts to cut off after 10 to 15 minutes. It cuts back on but when I try to pull off it shuts off.

Hi Jeffrey, I need you to check for diagnostic trouble codes for this. The car has an OBD1 system which doesn't require a scan tool. You can retrieve codes using a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.

Follow the directions below and let me know what is found.

Also, let me know if it restarts right away after it cuts off.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
