Speedometer squeaking, cable or cluster?

The amount of squeaking varies from trip to trip, but the instrument cluster (speedometer) constantly squeaks and vibrates whether at a low or high speed. I've taken it out and put crazy glue on the end of the speedo cable that attaches to the speedometer, assuming that there was a loose fit, to no prevail. Might the cable be broken down the line, or is it the actual gauge itself?

Also, the cruise control doesn't work either. Presumably, the two problems are related somehow.
