Hi, I have a 1989 Ford F250 351ci, 2WD, Auto, 79K Miles. While towing a travel trailer the engine got very weak while going uphill (no engine miss heard). Then we exited the interstate. As we came to turn off the engine wound down and quit. It would not restart. I switch gas tanks thinking it might have a fuel pump problem, still no start. I opened the hood and it was not overly not. After about 20 min it started and we limped on home. The next day the wife drove it and it quit with her 3 times. Could this be the cat cov? I had replaced the coil last year..So what do I look for? thanks, Alan

Check the exhaust system for restriction to rule out the catalytic converter and also check fuel pressure fuel pump could be failing-test the coil

Replaced the coil and had the fuel pressure checked which was good...mechanic could not get it to stall out. He did get it running bad (whatever that is) and said it sounded like CC was trying to breath. I take it this CC can not be bypassed as I remember the days of the old CC bypass pipe. Looks like 4 to 5 hundred to replace the CC. Are there 2 on this truck or just one?
thanks, Alan

Just an update for those interested. Yes, it has 2 Cat Converters. My exhaust system was 80 per cent plugged. New complete exhaust system cost like 5 bills but the darn thing runs great now..Like a different truck...But what caused it to stop up so bad? Alan
