My truck lost reverse and then it lost all forward gears but then the reverse started back working what could this be

Possible low on transmission fluid. Could be a clogged transmission filter, check the transission fluid. If it has a kind of burnt smell. You may get along with flushing the system and changing the filter if not there may be other internal problems.
